How do I control the formatting when I paste?

When you copy and paste content, you can specify whether the pasted content should include or not include its formatting. If you paste between documents, you can specify whether the formatting matches the source document or the new document.

To set the default formatting when pasting text:

  1. Select File > Options.
  2. Select the Advanced tab.
  3. Scroll down to the Cut, copy, and paste section.

  4. Set the Pasting within the same document option.
  5. Set the Pasting between documents option.
  6. Set the Pasting between documents when style definitions conflict option.
  7. Click Settings beside Use smart copy and paste.

  9. Click OK.
